The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an experienced Bookkeeper/Accountant - Full time 37.5 hours weekly Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm 

Job location: Greenville, NC 

Job Summary

Performs specialized clerical and bookkeeping tasks in the recording and maintenance of precise fiscal records and financial data; applies fundamental bookkeeping knowledge and skills to varied bookkeeping tasks such as administering the day-to-day operations the Great Plains Accounting Program by using functionalized double-entry accounting package, checking entries, issuing checks, balancing accounts, and preparing financial reports; prepares and maintains financial records in an accurate, complete, and timely manner while ensuring the integrity, security and accountability of Salvation Army financial accounts. Analyzes and prepares in a variety of routine and complex accounting functions; serves as a liaison to The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters Finance Department and the Greenville, NC Corps. Works with outside venders as needed in order to provide timely information regarding the status of payables; assists in performing general cost and fund accounting activities, including account reconciliations; assists in ensuring that accounting functions are performed in compliance with accounting principles, established policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal rules and regulations. This position serves on the local level as, Accounts Payable, Receivables, Accounting Clerk and assists the HR in payroll as needed. This position will include a variety of complex and routine accounting, finance and administrative functions such as general ledger accounting and reconciliation, processing of cash and cash transactions, banking, bank reconciliations, record keeping, ordering needed supplies, reporting, purchase orders, requisitions, checks, check requests, intercompany invoicing and ACH transactions.

Ability to operate and utilize computer systems to generate and record financial data. Ability to meet and achieve set goals and prioritize and plan work activities in a productive manner. This job requires hand movement, finger dexterity, reading, and writing. Ability to process financial documents in compliance with established policies and procedures. Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with outside vendors and Salvation Army financial staff throughout the Southern Territory. Ability to volunteer for additional tasks once assigned tasks are completed and seek professional, personal, and team opportunities as presented. Ability to cooperate with others and be part of and contribute to a positive team environment. Ability to follow instructions and appropriately respond to management direction. Ability to accept responsibility for personal actions and attitude. Ability to maintain appropriate attendance and punctuality expectations.

Education and Experience 

Associates Degree in Accounting or related field required, and Two years of experience performing progressively responsible accounting and/or bookkeeping work with limited supervision. OR 4 years’ experience as an Accountant and or Bookkeeper worked with limited supervision. 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  1. amount of physical effort required associated with hand movement, holding, finger dexterity, reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, vision, hearing, talking and sitting at least 90% of the work time; rare to occasional amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, squatting, crawling, and reaching at least 30% of the work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little, or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, chemicals, extreme temperatures, or hazardous conditions.
