 Gift Shop Manager

Located in Greenville, Vidant Medical Center is a fast-growing cultural hub of eastern North Carolina. It is the center of the Vidant Healthcare system. It has more than 900 licensed beds and offers extensive inpatient and outpatient services to more than 1.4 million people across 29 counties. Service League of Greenville (SLG) operates three gift shops in the medical center.

Job Summary

The Gift Shop Manager is responsible for the cost effective and profitable operation of the SLG Gift Shops whose profits are donated annually to the Hospital. Using marketing expertise, creative visions and a collaborative approach, the Gift Shop Manager ensures that the gift shops meet and exceed diverse client needs and expectations.  This position supervises a team of SLG volunteers and student employees who staff the three gift shops. The Gift Shop Manager also handles performance issues that arise with the student employees in the gift shops, manages and maintains merchandise and vendor contracts, establishes effective relationships with vendors and internal/external clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, dismiss and train student employees according to SLG policies
  • Work with SLG volunteers and maintain a working relationship with them
  • Prepare student employees schedules, conduct annual student employee evaluations and maintain personnel files
  • Prepare bookkeeping information for SLG Accountant
  • Make bank deposits           
  • Professionally manage daily operations to produce the highest possible income while keeping in mind that the primary mission of SLG is “to serve”
  • Develop and implement effective marketing strategies including overseeing purchasing of inventory
  • Maintain good rapport with the SLG Board, gift shop chairs, SLG volunteers, hospital administration as well as employees, patients, visitors, hospital staff, vendors and the public
  • Communicate regularly with the gift shop chairs regarding finance, personnel issues, shop management and marketing
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Retail management operational experience – prefer at least 2 years
  • Cash retail operations experience
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Knowledge of financial, budgetary, accounting and computational practices
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge and use of MS Office products
  • Retail marketing experience preferred

Salary

Range: $35,000-$45,000 (dependent on qualifications)
