The Residential Counselor is responsible for providing a safe, well maintained and pleasant living situation that fosters development of individual independence and self-reliance for each resident. Duties require that the employee provide on-site supervision and instruction to five adults in a licensed DDA (Developmentally Disabled Adults) level facility. This is "live-in" residential care and supervision of persons with disabilities, and is on a one-week on duty and one-week off duty rotation. The employee will assist residents with family style meal preparation, housekeeping, daily living skills, medication administration and appropriate social and recreational opportunities as individuals and as a group.
Educational Experience Required: A high school diploma, or its equivalent, and at least 1 year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities or in a related field is necessary. The successful applicant will also possess the ability to communicate with and provide clear instruction and guidance to persons with developmental disabilities, while empowering them to make decisions about their personal preferences and life choices. BCDC will provide successful applicants with training in the areas of medication administration, first aid and CPR, which you will be expected to successfully complete.
