NC CIVIL is a Greenville, North Carolina–based nonprofit focused on strengthening coordination across local systems and building community capacity to address persistent population disparities. Our work supports residents, community partners, and institutions in developing the relationships and structures needed to build neighborhood-level resiliency. At the center of this work is the ONE Carolina Strong Neighborhoods Initiative, which brings together community members, academic institutions, local nonprofits, and anchor organizations to better understand and respond to disparities through a coordinated, whole-system approach. ONE Carolina operates through three integrated components: CIVILab, Strong Neighborhoods, and the Community-Centered Partnership Model. CIVILab serves as both a physical gathering space and a virtual collaboration hub, supporting engaged learning, collaborative research, data exploration, and shared documentation. The lab helps organize community voice, relationships, and resources to strengthen local alignment and coordination. The Strong Neighborhoods component translates data and learning into targeted outreach, organizing, and capacity-building support within communities experiencing higher levels of disparity, supporting neighborhood-level leadership through resident planning councils and resident-led initiatives. The Community-Centered Partnership Model organizes local sector leaders and institutions into coordinated layers of support aligned with community priorities. By improving awareness, alignment, and collaboration, the initiative reduces duplication and supports more responsive local systems. Together, these components form a continuous cycle linking community voice, data, relationships, and systems to support learning, coordination, and long-term community resiliency.Member Duties2 CIVILab Associate VISTAs will support the establishment and ongoing operation of a unique, community-engaged local disparities lab and engagement hub that serves as a launchpad for collaborative service projects, community-engaged research, and experiential learning.
