Description:

Job Title

Under general supervision, performs responsible office and administrative support for meetings and activities of the Board of County Commissioners. Serves as secretary to the Clerk to the Board and County Manager.

Example Of Duties

Acts in absence of the Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners assuming responsibilities required to continue the operation of the office.

Answers telephone and receives inquiries, providing information, and refers callers to appropriate personnel, as necessary.

Handles scheduling and travel arrangements for the County Manager and Board of Commissioners.

Files insurance claims and processes schedule changes as needed.

Schedules and coordinates reservations for public meetings in the courthouse and maintains various calendars.

Updates the county cable channel.

Responsible for posting surplus equipment on GovDeals.com.

Utilizes various computer software programs including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to enter, store, and/or retrieve and format information as requested or otherwise necessary.

Assists in copying and distributing agendas for Board meetings.

Attends Committee meetings, sends notices, and prepares agendas and minutes.

Coordinates United Way Campaign.

Performs other related work as required for the Board of Commissioners as directed by the Clerk to the Board.

May be required to work some overtime hours such as attending Board meetings.

Typical Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience in administrative work or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Associates degree is preferred.

  • Interpersonal Communications: Must be able to communicate with tact, judgement, empathy, energy, and a good sense of humor, utilizing strong organizational skills.
  • Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas and basic mathematical principles in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Interpersonal Temperament: Requires tact, judgement, empathy, organizational skills, energy, and the ability to deal with a wide range of personalities and people from varied socio-economic backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must be a certified notary public or have ability to obtain certification. Must be willing to attend and successfully complete courses at the School of Government (SOG) of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that apply toward certification by the SOG as a North Carolina Certified County Clerk.
