Job Description
Versademics Learning Centers is seeking two Federal Work Study Students to serve as Afterschool Academic Tutors during the Fall 2026 semester.

Versademics is a nonprofit afterschool and summer program serving K-12 youth in Pitt County. Our name blends "versatile" and "academics," reflecting our mission to develop scholars who excel academically, socially, and in extracurriculars. Across the 2024-25 school year, our scholars demonstrated significant gains in reading speed, reading accuracy, and multiplication fluency, and we are committed to sustaining that momentum through the school year.

Tutors at Versademics work in small-group and one-on-one formats during the academic block of our afterschool day. This role is ideal for students considering a career in teaching, school counseling, school social work, or any youth-serving profession, and it offers meaningful classroom experience under the supervision of experienced program staff.

  • Support scholars with daily homework completion across subject areas
  • Implement structured curricula and tutoring protocols provided by Versademics
  • Track scholar progress using pre and post assessment data, fluency checks, and observational notes
  • Support differentiated instruction tailored to each scholar's grade level and skill needs
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and lead staff to identify scholars needing additional support
  • Reinforce positive learning habits, attention to task, and growth mindset language
  • Maintain accurate attendance and session records
  • Communicate respectfully with scholars, families, and program staff
  • Participate in staff orientation and weekly tutor check-ins
  • Support classroom setup, materials prep, and general care of the learning environment

  • Prior tutoring, classroom, or youth mentorship experience is a plus
  • Attention to detail and reliability in tracking scholar progress
