Kindergarten Teacher

The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of young learners. The teacher plans and delivers instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and utilizes developmentally appropriate practices to foster student growth and achievement.

Instruction and Curriculum

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Implement developmentally appropriate instructional strategies that meet the diverse needs of kindergarten students. Differentiate instruction to support students with varying learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds. Utilize a variety of instructional resources, technology, and hands-on learning experiences. Integrate literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning throughout daily instruction.

Student Assessment

Assess student learning using formal and informal assessment methods. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of academic performance. Use assessment data to guide instruction and provide targeted interventions. Participate in required state and district assessments.

Classroom Environment

Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment. Implement effective classroom management practices that promote student engagement and self-regulation. Foster positive relationships with students and encourage respect, responsibility, and cooperation.

Family and Community Engagement

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities. Conduct parent conferences and participate in school-family engagement events. Collaborate with families to support student learning and development.

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with grade-level teams, support staff, and administrators. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and professional development opportunities. Collaborate with special education, English Learner, and intervention staff to support student success. Maintain compliance with district policies, state regulations, and professional standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of child development and early childhood education practices. Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly. Proficiency in educational technology and instructional tools.
