As a Police Officer Trainee, you will be compensated to attend a Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) academy and perform miscellaneous duties to include clerical and other tasks as needed. This is an in-training position for individuals that have not completed training and academic requirements established by the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards to become a fully certified Police Officer. A Police Officer Trainee will perform applicable duties associated with training guidelines set by the North Carolina Department of Justice Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards' Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (B.L.E.T.).
This is a temporary position. The Police Officer Trainee must complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training program and pass the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards state examination for police officers before becoming full-time with the City of Kinston Police Department.
Some knowledge of the geography of the City and location of important buildings; ability to learn police procedures and law enforcement techniques; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports; ability to effectively perform work in stressful situations; ability to deal courteously but firmly with the public; ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to surrounding hazards and circumstances; skill in the use of firearms and the operation of an automobile; ability to establish and maintain effective relationship with associates and the general public.
Criteria for Basic Law Enforcement Certification:
