Logistics Technician I

The Logistics Technician I provides effective, efficient, and economical services for the receipt, storage, and movement of materials and components to support Dyneema LP and Dyneema fiber production, as well as production support activities for fiber production components.

The Logistics Technician operates within Avient Protective Materials to support Fiber Solutions and Life Protection manufacturing facilities at Greenville site supplying raw materials and shipment of finished goods efficiently and effectively to avoid bottlenecks in the manufacturing processes impacting production plan; and to adhere to EPA regulatory requirements for hazardous waste shipments.

This is a 12-hour rotating shift (days only)

Starting pay: $21/hour

Essential Functions

  • Work safely and follow all applicable procedures and policies.
  • Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of APM intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  • Load and unload internal and carrier freight, and process documentation as required.
  • Move, measure, maintain inventory and store raw, intermediate and finished products.
  • Prepare product boxes and inserts for fiber packaging and prepare full boxes for shipment.
  • Perform inventory related entries in SAP system as required with accuracy.
  • Assist in the training and guidance of other team members.
  • Clean, store, maintain components used in production and production support areas as required.
  • Safely handle liquid and solid hazardous wastes. Load/unload bulk liquid and solids, perform transfers from liquid waste tank, and handle drummed waste.
  • Prepare chemical additives used in the fiber production process.
  • Perform routine inspections of hazardous waste storage facilities, logging required data.
  • Safely perform disassembly of fiber production spinning blocks, and ready these and other components for off-site cleaning.
  • Comply with all job-related regulatory and training requirements in a timely manner.

  • Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.

Authorities

Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Unloads goods and material received, enters appropriate information into system, labels and locates material.
  • Checks the delivery list and plans and schedules the day's shipments.
  • Separates customer orders and places into bins. Pulls and stages orders. Repacks material if required to meet customer specifications. As required, makes boxes, packs, labels and locates materials.
  • Ensures all products are properly labeled, and packaged. Coordinates the shipment and shipping paperwork of materials per CSR instructions. (Mode of shipment could include UPS, OTR carriers, dedicated carriers, international or bulk carriers.)
  • Loads all trucks for shipments, ensuring the product gets on to the correct truck. Ensures driver signs all required paperwork.
  • Calculates total weight for each shipment by adding individual weights of containers included in shipment.
  • Performs functions in SAP to receive and ship material.
  • Enters claims and customer returns into the system.
  • Participates in cycle counting. Enters and verifies information. Researches and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Reviews preventative maintenance check sheets for forklifts and breakbulk machines. Ensures good working order of machines.
  • Follows and complies with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Maybe required to handle the accumulation, disposal and transportation of hazardous waste. If required to do so, must participate in prerequisite training in order to meet RCRA waste management requirements.
  • Drives fork lifts, locomotives, track-mobiles or other heavy duty material movers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical/Environ. Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and use foot/feet to operate machine. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and frequently move more than 250 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc. Work is inside and the typical noise level is loud. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and explosives. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and at least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in a fibers production environment and/or equivalent military technical experience or training.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of scheduling procedures.
  • Knowledge of changeovers/cleaning/set-up, work instructions.
  • Ability to organize, schedule and follow-up on activities.
  • Ability to plan buffers to achieve maximum process throughput.
  • Basic mechanical skills & knowledge including minor equipment assembly. Tasks involve safely handling hazardous waste and rigging heavy metal components.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to read gauges, dials, meters and set controllers.
  • Ability to follow verbal or written directions.
  • Ability to create written procedures to define routine work processes.
  • Knowledge of performance standards.
  • Ability to coordinate hand-arm manipulations.
  • Knowledge of SAP computer transactions in OTC, MM and WM modules.
  • Knowledge of applicable site environmental regulations relative to hazardous waste.
  • Basic Computer Skills
