Responsibilities
Using multiple data sources retrieves, collects, verifies, and enters data into designated CV databases by adhering to established timelines and work plans, locating and initiating review of pertinent patient records, and interpreting/analyzing documentation as it relates to data elements.
Providing data flow feedback to supervisor in order to maximize resource utilization and office operations.
Working collaboratively with office coworkers, HIS staff, and others to efficiently retrieve data.
Ensuring completeness and integrity of data records by running quality reports and by random checking own work and work of others under the supervision of the Coordinator.
Attends registry webinars, monitors updates, data dictionary changes, and measure specifications to ensure ongoing adherence to evolving program requirements.
Preparing routine statistical and other reports as directed by the Coordinator in order to assist with the efficiency of the data center.
Performs follow-up patient case abstractions per clinical registry database requirements.
Minimum Requirements
High School or equivalent or higher is required.
Associate's degree in related field is preferred.
A nursing degree is preferred but not required. Non-nurses in this position should have a nurse mentor at the hospital that is accessible to help the Data Specialist to answer difficult clinical questions.
Additional education may be substituted for required experience, such as ICD coding and/or other data analytical experience.
More than 1 year experience in health care, business, information technology, or related field is required.
Working knowledge of computer applications and information management is required.
Experience in clinical chart review and good communication and relationship-building skills is highly desirable.
Electronic Medical Record (i.e. EPIC) usage experience required.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and basic clinical workflows is required.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet strict data submission deadlines is required.
