Description:

Operations Specialist (Peer Support Specialist)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST

Compensation: $32.27/hr

Target Start Date: March 11, 2026

About the Role

Are you looking to use your lived experience tomake a tangible difference in the lives of others? As a Peer Support Specialist, you will be a vital bridge between our members and the healthcare system. You'll use your unique perspective and professional training to advocate for members diagnosed with substance use disorders and/or serious mental illnesses.

Your mission is to instill hope, model recovery, and ensure our members are linked to the specific services and community resources that match their unique recovery journey.

Working closely with a multidisciplinary care team, your day-to-day will involve:

  • Outreach & Engagement: Conducting outbound calls to high-risk members to build rapport and encourage proactive recovery interventions.
  • Person-Centered Planning: Completing intake assessments and helping members develop care plans that prioritize their personal goals.
  • Advocacy & Coaching: Teaching empowerment skills and self-advocacy, helping members navigate everyday decision-making and resolve barriers to care.
  • Resource Coordination: Identifying community resources (social, recreational, and clinical) and supporting members through the referral process.
  • Collaboration: Participating in daily care team meetings and documenting all member interactions accurately in the electronic medical record.

You will join an interdisciplinary team that values collaboration and empathy. You'll work most closely with Behavioral Health Case Managers to follow up on member goals and progress. Our culture is built on the belief that lived experience is a professional asset—you aren't just a coordinator; you are a role model for resilience.

  • Certification: Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in the state of North Carolina.
  • Lived Experience: A willingness to appropriately share your personal recovery journey to support member engagement and instill hope.
  • Experience: Approximately 3 years of experience in a related field (mental health/substance use disorder support).
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Skills: Strong communication skills for telephonic outreach and the ability to navigate electronic medical records.

Your journey begins with a comprehensive, classroom-style training program that mirrors our Case Manager training process. You will spend your first three months mastering our systems, learning the referral workflow, and building relationships with your teammates.

Why Join Us?

  • Meaningful Impact: Directly improve member experience and quality of care outcomes.
  • Full-Time Stability: A consistent 40-hour work week with a competitive hourly rate.
  • Growth: Opportunities for professional development within a large, mission-driven organization.

Equal Opportunity Employer: Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, National Origin, Age, Genetic Information, Disability, Protected Veteran Status, or any other legally protected group status.
