Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies (DARS) at East Carolina University began in 1967 with a degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. The first students graduated in 1969. Currently, the department has the following degree programs: B.S. in Rehabilitation Services, M.S. in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in addictions, M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling, and Ph.D. in Counselor Preparation and Research; both master's programs and the doctoral program are CACREP accredited. DARS also supports a faculty-directed, student operated counseling clinic called the Navigate Counseling Clinic. The Navigate Counseling Clinic and funded research projects provide mental health, addiction, rehabilitation, and employment counseling services to individuals in eastern NC.
Job Duties
The Addictions Counselor will provide direct assessment, treatment planning, mental health and addictions counseling, and case management services. Additionally, the Addictions Counselor will maintain active collaborative relationship with community treatment organizations and health departments. The Addictions Counselor will also assist the Project Coordinator, Project Director, and Project Evaluator to complete treatment related data reports.

Minimum Education/Experience
MA/MS in Counselor Education or closely related field.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Licensure as a clinical addictions specialist or associate (LCAS/LCAS-A).
Experience providing direct service for individuals with substance use and
co-occurring disorders.
