Job Description
Position Summary
Groundskeepers serve as the housekeeping and repair technicians of the hospital properties. Groundskeepers routinely mow, rake, weed, trim and collect trash in order to maintain the appearance of the facility exterior; its unofficial front door and the first contact that visitors and staff have when arriving. Additionally, the groundskeepers maintain their assigned equipment, keep current on their training, operate and maintain irrigation systems, chemically treat for insects and diseases and generally maintain the outward appearance of the facility.
Responsibilities
Trims, cuts, rakes, mows and edges lawns and shrubbery; cleans and weeds bed, removes unwanted damaged plants and replaces same; treats plants with chemical preparations; spreads fertilizer and see; removes snow ice from sidewalks and drives. Polices grounds for trash and debris. Clears debris from storm drains; sweeps sidewalks, parking lots and other outside traffic areas.
Cleans and organizes work area. Cleans, oils and sharpens tools. Reports malfunctioning equipment and does preventive maintenance on same.
Plants trees, shrubs and flowers as directed. Applies fertilizers, both liquid and granular, as directed. Seeds and over-seeds lawns as directed. Operates and applies pesticides and herbicides following the NC Agriculture Dept guidelines or manuals.
Assists with all special projects such as hazard materials removal or other types of projects that arise on campus
Minimum Requirements
High school graduate plus one or more years documented work experience, formal training or education preferably in groundskeeping/landscaping. Must maintain a valid North Carolina drivers license.
Pay Range
$16.00 - $21.12
Other Information
Shift Expectations: Mon-Fri 0700-1530; Rotating On Call - when on call, covers 2300-0700 Mon-Fri and 24 hours Sat, Sun and Holidays
