We have a mission that matters!**Description of Work**The Department of Adult Correction (DAC) is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Specialist to support financial operations by auditing, processing, and managing a variety of payments—including those for independent contractors, medical providers, and departmental purchases—through the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS). This role ensures compliance with state financial policies and procedures, resolves invoice discrepancies, and maintains accurate vendor accounts through diligent review and communication with internal and external stakeholders.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences*****Salary Range:*** *$32,639.00 - $57,117.00 Annually***Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:*** Process a wide range of financial transactions—including payments to contractors, medical providers, and departmental vendors—using the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) to ensure accuracy and timely disbursement.* Audit invoices and related purchase documentation to verify compliance with state policies and confirm that all required backup materials are complete and accurate.* Act as a liaison between facilities, internal teams, and vendors to resolve billing discrepancies, clarify charges, and obtain missing information necessary for payment processing.* Review and reconcile vendor statements, investigating discrepancies through both manual analysis and financial system tools to maintain accurate and up-to-date account records.**Management Preferences:*** Knowledge of NCFS processes, state purchasing policies, and accounts payable procedures to accurately manage purchase orders and direct payables.* Skilled in auditing invoices and supporting documentation, identifying billing errors, and resolving discrepancies with departments and vendors.* Strong communication skills for effectively working with vendors, facility staff, and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and resolve issues.* Ability to perform detailed manual and computer-based tasks with accuracy and consistency while maintaining audit readiness.* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation, communication, and data analysis.This position is eligible for a***flexible/hybrid** telework* schedule under the State of NC Telework Program.This is a full-time position (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm/40 hours per week) with.**Note to Current State Employees:**State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.
