Description of Work

The Revenue Field Auditor I conducts independent examinations of taxpayer financial records with unique or special audit features, ensuring compliance with state tax laws and identifying additional revenue opportunities. The position involves maintaining an audit plan, selecting audit candidates, scheduling taxpayer interviews, reviewing records, and preparing audit reports. Regular travel to taxpayer locations within an assigned territory and limited overnight travel are required. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct independent examinations of taxpayers financial records.


• Review and audit all tax schedules administered by the DOR.


• Develop and maintain an audit plan, including selection of audit candidates and scheduling of interviews.


• Use resourcefulness and good judgment to identify non?compliant taxpayers and generate additional revenue.


• Prepare and submit audit reports for timely review.


• Travel regularly to taxpayer locations within an assigned territory, with limited overnight travel.


• Maintain accurate records and follow all regulatory guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and state tax laws across multiple schedules.


• Basic proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software.


• Understanding of auditing and accounting principles and practices.


• Effective analytical skills for investigating complex tax compliance issues.


• Resourcefulness, good judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $62,130 $102,574 per year.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, or a related field with at least eighteen semester hours of accounting from an accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A transcript verifying completion of the required accounting hours is required.
