East Carolina University's (ECU) Department of Biology is looking to hire a manager of its Environmental Research Lab (ERL). The ERL provides analytical services and training to ECU individuals that need to complete chemical analyses of water and soil samples. The ERL is located in the Howell Science Complex and will begin occupying newly renovated space in Howell Science Complex beginning Spring 2026.
About us: The Department of Biology at ECU is one of 15 academic departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences. The department and college foster recruitment and retention, and strive to increase access to higher education by building a culture of care, belonging, and opportunity. The department instructs more than 17,000 students each academic year and is involved in high-impact training for undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral students. ECU was recently classified as an R1 institution.
Duties:
Management of the ERL constitutes 50% of the managers duties, including oversight and training of personnel (including students), managing the ERL budget and service center costs, maintaining equipment, purchasing materials and supplies, lab safety, advising on experimental methodologies and updating/creating SOPs, quality assurance, invoicing, and performing analyses and delivering results.
