Overview

The Clinical Therapist at the TEDI BEAR Childrens Advocacy Center, Department of Pediatrics, Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, provides comprehensive treatment services to adults and children who have experienced abuse and trauma. Services include psycho-social assessments, development of treatment plans, coordination with involved agencies, and intensive trauma treatment (individual, family, and play therapy; psycho-educational sessions). The role participates in the centers multidisciplinary team, weekly staffing, and offers consultation to staff on complex cases. Training to students and community providers may be provided as needed. Family advocacy through court testimony and external reviews is possible as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive treatment services to adults and children who have experienced abuse and trauma
  • Conduct extensive psycho-social assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans
  • Coordinate with involved agencies and provide intensive trauma treatment
  • Deliver long- and short-term individual, family, and play therapy; and psycho-educational sessions
  • Collaborate with the centers multidisciplinary team; participate in weekly staffing to inform treatment decisions
  • Provide clinical consultation to staff on complex cases
  • Offer training to students and community mental health providers as needed
  • Engage in family advocacy, including court testimony and attendance at external agency reviews as needed
Employment Benefits

Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) with employer contributions and investment options. Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelors degree in a Human Services discipline with relevant coursework. Some positions may require certification to practice as a licensed Clinical Social Worker as required by the North Carolina Social Work Certification Board. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.

Licensure/Certification

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) will also be considered. All licenses must be current and unrestricted.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training

Preference given to candidates with 4+ years of therapeutic counseling experience in mental health. Experience with crisis intervention, trauma (child and adult), and family violence is desired. Experience with trauma assessment and treatment is preferred.
