This opportunity plays an influential role in driving proactive technical capabilities in an innovative culture at Sanford enabling Pfizer's Purpose: Breakthroughs that change patients' lives. The role shares in the long-term site automation strategy at a key manufacturing facility, working closely with site leaders, Pfizer Digital, and Pfizer Global Engineering to establish a vision and implement, improve and sustain systems that protect and support site operations. This role works collaboratively with all functions within the site to ensure world class production of medicines.
This role has accountability for leading a high-performance automation engineering team that supports quality control, warehouse, utilities, manufacturing, and MSAT at the Sanford site. It includes strategic planning in automation, delivery on capital projects, developing and managing automation engineers, and providing input into cGMP-related functions such as Computer System Assurance and Data Integrity. The role interfaces across the Pfizer network to align Sanford with Pfizer Automation strategies and concepts, including cyber-security, and represents the functional area to site leadership.
Responsibilities

What You Will Achieve
- Provides strategic leadership for design and maintenance of automation systems at the Sanford site; supports strategic capital projects and owns key automation systems in compliance with internal guidance and external regulations
- Leads and manages direct reports and department objectives; sets priorities and provides ongoing feedback and recognition
- Oversees personnel activities such as recruitment, performance evaluations, succession planning, salary adjustments, and training
- Establishes external contacts to share best practices for automation, cyber-security, and data integrity
- Ensures safety training compliance and safety program participation
- Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements and internal policies related to cGMP and data integrity
- Collaborates with peers across departments to support safety, continuous improvement, and recognition programs
Minimum Requirements
- BS in engineering or IT with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with at least 7 years in biotech/pharma; experience in biotech/biopharmaceutical manufacturing preferred
- At least 5 years of direct supervisory or managerial experience
- Strong administrative, managerial, computer, and presentation skills
- Experience with DeltaV, PI Historian, BMS, and PLCs
- Demonstrated high technical and managerial competency with potential for higher leadership roles
- Technical depth, budgetary accountability, external contacts, and decision-making ability
Preferred Requirements
- Understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 compliance
- Experience in project management and/or qualification/verification

- Work Location: Sanford, NC (On Premise); some travel to Pfizer sites and industry events

Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary ranges from $156,600 to $261,000, with a bonus target of 20% and eligibility for long-term incentive programs. Pfizer offers comprehensive benefits including a 401(k) with company contributions, paid vacation and holidays, parental and medical leave, and health coverage. Salary may vary by location.
