Job SummaryThe City of Greenville's Public Works Department is currently seeking Laborers for its Building & Grounds Division. This position performs a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor tasks. As a Laborer, you will be a member of a team that maintains the City of Greenville's facilities. Join our team now to contribute to preserving and improving the City's beauty!Regular working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.FLSA Status: Non-ExemptExamples of Duties* Drives light duty truck as needed;* Serves as a crew member engaged in city wide landscape maintenance;* Operates a variety of small power tools; weed eater, bed edger, backpack blower, push and zero turn mowers and chainsaws;* Performs liter patrol;* Assists other employees with tools, equipment, and daily job task;* Performs limited skilled maintenance and repairs on various buildings, structures, and facilities;* Performs limited cleaning and janitorial duties;* Assists with loading and unloading supplies and materials related to maintenance and landscaping;* Performs limited skilled maintenance as directed;* Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:* Ability to read and write sufficiently to complete required tasks (high school diploma or GED preferred); and* Six months of manual labor experience.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of:* standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in area of assigned work.* work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work area.Ability to:* perform heavy manual labor over extended periods of time in a variety of weather conditions.* learn operating details and procedures involved in performing a variety of manual tasks.* cooperate as a member of a work crew.* understand and follow oral instructions.* work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public.* work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.* meet mental and physical demands of the job.Special Requirements* Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.* This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds frequently and up 100 pounds occasionally.
