Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Project Engineer - Advanced Power Systems based at our Warehouse Product Development Center (WPDC) located in Greenville, North Carolina. In this role, you'll play a vital part in developing innovative warehouse equipment solutions by leading product concept creation, development, testing, and implementation. You'll collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and procurement to ensure high-performance and cost-effective equipment reaches our global customers.

What you will do:

  1. Lead the design, development, testing, and release of advanced energy and electrical systems such as hydrogen fuel cells, Li-Ion batteries, and hybrid power sources.
  2. Translate truck-level requirements into actionable system and component-level specifications.
  3. Develop, validate, and execute test plans (DVP&R) for vehicle systems and components; analyze results and report findings.
  4. Create and maintain engineering outputs including CAD drawings, specifications, bill of materials, test reports, and validation documentation.
  5. Support and collaborate with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Marketing, and Aftermarket teams throughout development lifecycle.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical harness and schematic-related issues during design and prototyping phases.
  7. Coordinate prototype builds, system integration, and manufacturing support for pilot and production activities.

What you will need:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred)
  2. Minimum 7 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in vehicle development or industrial equipment design.

Skills, Experience & Abilities

  1. Alternative Power Expertise: Hands-on experience designing and developing lead-acid, Li-Ion batteries, vehicle electrical systems, and hybrid power sources.
  2. Design & Drafting: Proficient in CAD (Siemens NX preferred), 3D wire harness design, and electrical schematic tools (Zuken E3). Strong knowledge of drafting practices and engineering analysis.
  3. Validation & Testing: Skilled in developing and executing DVP&Rs and interpreting test results to ensure system reliability and performance.
  4. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to support manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, and aftermarket teams across the full product lifecycle.
  5. Project Management & Communication: Effective at managing complex projects, documenting processes, and clearly communicating technical concepts across teams.
  6. Technical Capabilities: Proven experience with CAN Open protocol. Proven capability to define and write requirements in a requirements database (Polarion exp is a plus). Proven knowledge of the V&V process (with examples).
  7. Software Management Capabilities: Proven experience and knowledge of executing software development programs. Working knowledge of MBSE designs (utilizing Simulink is a plus). Knowledge and experience utilizing Model in the Loop (MIL) processes.
