Salary Range: $109,561.03 - $164,341.55

This is an exempt (salaried) position. Please note: pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level, and internal equity. Position: Real Property Director

Position Summary

Direct activities within the Real Property division. This position is considered a high-level specialist who regularly interacts with senior management and reports to the County Assessor.

Essential Functions

  1. Review residential and commercial real estate appraisals for accuracy and compliance with established policies and guidelines.
  2. Review completed appraisals to ensure proper property valuation and adherence to procedures.
  3. Establish quality standards for the appraisal process.
  4. Provide oversight and direction for program/service implementation.
  5. Manage strategic planning initiatives.
  6. Coordinate within the department across divisions.
  7. Represent the division County-wide and to the Board of County Commissioners.
  8. Lead legislative initiatives.
  9. Interpret policies.
  10. Serve as a liaison internally and externally.

Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least eight years of progressively responsible commercial and residential appraisal experience, including two years of supervisory experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. A combination of relevant education and experience is accepted.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License.
  • County Driving Privileges.
  • County Real Property Appraiser certification from NC Dept. of Revenue.
  • Completion of IAAO Course 102 or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • IAAO designation (e.g., CAE, RES, AAS).
  • Mass Appraisal experience.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles, customer service principles, legal codes, government regulations, and real property expertise.
  • Strong communication, data analysis, problem-solving, research, and judgment skills.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate options, convey information effectively, and build strategic relationships.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
