Description: The Department of Campus Safety & Auxiliary Services encompasses the following departments: Environmental Health & Safety, Campus Police, Parking & Transportation Services, Insurance & Risk Management, Emergency Management and Business Continuity Planning, Security Technology, 1 Card, University Printing & Graphics, Mail Services and Dowdy Student Stores. The Division is committed to serving the University by enhancing campus safety and managing auxiliary services in an efficient and effective manner that best serves our customers and meets institutional goals.

The Violence Prevention and Threat Management unit manages the university workplace violence program, coordinates the University Behavioral Concerns Team (UBCT), conducts training and threat assessments and manages cases involving faculty and staff or other individuals posing an imminent threat or safety risk to one or more members of the campus community. The unit also coordinates Youth Program safety and compliance.

Job Duties:

  1. The Director of Threat Assessment and Case Management will oversee the university's Workplace Violence program, coordinate the University Behavioral Concerns Team (UBCT) and conduct training, threat assessments and manage cases involving individuals posing an imminent threat or safety risk to the campus community.
  2. The director supervises a Violence Prevention and Threat Management case manager and Youth Programs and Compliance coordinator.
  3. This position includes collaborating on a concern reporting form for referrals, conducting preliminary threat assessments, serving as chair of a multidisciplinary University Behavioral Concerns Team (UBCT) that encompasses both student and employee behaviors that are concerning, including threats and violence.
  4. This position oversees the management of sensitive information, maintains timely and accurate records, produces reports, and organizes and disseminates case information, as appropriate.

Requirements:

Minimums:
* Master's degree in the area of social work, behavioral health, criminal justice or any other related degree and five years of post-graduate experience in higher education (or equivalent higher education experience).
* Minimum of at least three years of progressively responsible experience in threat assessment and case management or a related field.
* Minimum of at least three years of experience as a supervisor.
* Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational and administrative skills, including interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
* Experience building strong teams and positive and effective relationships across campus communities.
* Experience in managing cases and projects independently.
* Knowledge of legal issues in higher education.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:
* Doctorate degree in the area of social work, behavioral health, criminal justice or any other related degree.
* Relevant threat assessment certifications, such as Certified Threat Manager and/or QPR Suicide Prevention Instructor and membership in the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP).
* University experience with demonstrated knowledge of academic rules and regulations.
* Significant experience with crisis and threat management, and experience interacting with the public, parents, students, faculty, and staff.
* Experience and knowledge of threat assessment best practices, policies, procedures, pertinent North Carolina law and violence prevention is preferred.
* Ability to manage multiple significant situations simultaneously.
* Ability to serve as an effective member of the senior management team.
* Ability to communicate highly technical and security related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.
* Ability to influence without direct accountability.
* Conceptual and logical thinking, intuitive and analytical thought processes.
