The mission of the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS) is to develop North Carolina's workforce talent, help individuals advance their career opportunities, and meet business workforce needs by connecting talent to jobs. The NCWorks Career Center provides a full range of services to diverse categories of job seekers and employers to meet their employment and placement needs through: assessment and development of job requirements; evaluation of experiences, skills and abilities; referral to jobs, job training programs, or other placement services.
The Agriculture and Foreign Labor Services Unit provides comprehensive employment, training, and supportive services to agricultural job seekers and employers. Special emphasis is placed on services to Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers (MSFWs) to ensure that they are served comparably to the general applicant population. With respect to agricultural employers, primary emphasis is placed on assisting growers in meeting their employment needs and helping them stay in compliance with the various farm labor rules and regulations. This ongoing mission allows the Department of Commerce to meet the requirements of the Richey Court Order and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), 20 CFR parts 651, 653, and 658.
This position is responsible for maintaining the MSFW Outreach Program. The Outreach Program involves the following intensive outreach activities: visiting MSFWs at their housing and working sites to inform them about employment & training opportunities and supportive services available to them through the NC Works careers centers & partner agencies. The position will provide assistance in registering MSFWs for employment, referring MSFWs to supplemental or alternate employment, providing information on employment-related services and farmworkers' rights, explaining the complaint system, resolving or reporting apparent violations, and receiving and processing written MSFW complaints to appropriate enforcement agencies. The position is located in the Nash County NCWorks Center with outreach duties to the North Central Prosperity Zone and surrounding area. The work is performed under the formal supervision of the Agricultural Services Field Supervisor.
