Salary: $31,688 - $55,453

The Challenge

We are hiring 2 transportation worker II's to join our Pitt County Maintenance team.

In this role, you will:

• Perform maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State Maintained roads and roadside features.
• Install traffic and erosion control devices.
• Operate hand and power tools and heavy equipment.
• Clear right of ways.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to pavements, shoulder maintenance, pipe installation or other drainage tasks.
• Inventory and track materials used.
• Perform manual labor tasks.
• Act upon verbal and written communications to successfully complete assigned tasks.

What You Bring

• Strength to repeatedly lift up to 80 pounds.
• Agility to traverse steep and uneven terrain, walk and stand for long periods of time, shovel, rake, and sweep.
• Ability to work effectively in extreme temperature conditions while performing manual labor road maintenance,
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, including ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, and work in high volumes of traffic and around heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to work in all types of weather.
• A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Don't have one? STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire.)
• Safety toe shoes.
• Working Knowledge of Standard Road Maintenance and Construction Procedures.
• Experience in 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
• Experience with installation of erosion control devices.
• Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies.
• Experience in the operation of 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoes, tandem dump trucks, motor graders, front end loaders, forklifts, force feed loaders, asphalt distributors, asphalt patchers, crack sealing machines, track excavators, skid steers, or sweepers.
• Safety toe shoes.

Notes

• We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and a background check of your previous employers for the past 3 years for drug/alcohol abuse. We will also conduct a criminal background check.
• This role is subject to emergency call back, scheduled night work, and out of town travel during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.

Education & Experience

• High school/GED diploma, and
• 3+ years of relevant experience; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.
