POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is hiring for a Temporary Maintenance & Operations Assistant! This position will be located at Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium and will assist with athletic event logistics and work closely with event staff including public address announcer, scoreboard operator, parking staff and security. This position will also assist with athletic field and facility maintenance, which includes but is not limited to goals, nets, press box, and general grounds maintenance. In addition, the incumbents may also take part in operating the scoreboard, clock and sound equipment at events. These positions will work a varying schedule to include daytime hours, evenings, weekends, and possible holidays.
Facility Overview: The Grady Cole Center (3,000-capacity civic center) and American Legion Memorial Stadium (10,000-seat stadium) are large scale public assembly rental venues owned and operated by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department. The facilities lie adjacent to each other on a 12-acre parcel of land nestled within Central Piedmont Community College's Central Campus in uptown Charlotte.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
* Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
* Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
* Perform general custodial work
* Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
* Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Licenses and Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges
Computer Skills: General knowledge of applicable computer programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:
* Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
* Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
* Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work
Skills:
* Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers and other assigned equipment
* Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
