General Summary:
The Tool Maker is responsible for manufacturing, reworking, trouble-shooting, and maintenance of tooling. Reads and interprets tool designs and participates in proposed new tooling concepts by providing feedback on tool fabrication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Understands use, wear and enforce required PPE within assigned work area/position (including Face Masks). Complies with all safety regulations.
2. Performs machining, assembly and modification of tools, on both assembly and detail level throughout the product build. Understanding of varied drilling, machining and assembly processes to meet 2D and 3D requirements.
3. Interacts with individuals inside and outside the assigned area often directly with the internal customer.
4. Recommends solutions to a variety of related tooling problems.
5. Operates required machinery and equipment (CNC and Manual) using the prescribed processes and procedures while following established safety rules.
6. Completes special assignments and simple repairs as required.
7. Keeps supervisor/lead up to date on task/assignment status.
8. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Supports company 5S program. Encourages others to maintain a clean and organized work area.
9. Mentors less experienced team members within the Tooling group.
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Associates degree or higher in a technical field preferred
3. 3 years of mechanical and/or tool fabrication experience
4. 3 years CNC programing from 2D prints and CAD models
5. AWS D1.1 and /or D1.2 Weld Certification (Steel and Aluminum) or aptitude to pass certification a plus.
6. Hands on experience with machine tools required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Experience with tooling for commercial and general aviation aircraft.
2. Strong interpersonal skills.
3. Experience with 3D models interpretation.
4. Ability to interpret GD&T drawing language.
5. Ability to use simple arithmetic, a limited number of measuring instruments and blueprints.
6. Ability to read work orders, blueprints and operating sheets to determine sequence of operations, type size and hole patterns for rivets.
7. Exhibits teamwork and strong work ethics within the Honda Philosophy.
8. Ability to work overtime, call in, call back and on call duty if so requested by management.
9. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and PowerPoint) strongly preferred.
10. Intermediate working knowledge of SAP and Teamcenter Manufacturing beginner level.
Physical Requirements:
1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided reach assistance technology or movement assist technology (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dollys, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
