Job Description Summary
Full-time 12 month maintenance position reports to the Coordinator of Grounds/Landscaping. The Grounds Technician works in partnership to ensure proactive and professional maintenance of College grounds (including grounds cleanliness, College setups and grounds equipment maintenance). This position requires day-to-day maintenance of the Colleges grounds. Adherence to established safety regulations and precautions and continuing training to minimize accidents and injuries in compliance with BCCC's Safety Plan.

Education Requirements:
Required: High school diploma or GED
Physical Requirements:
Qualified candidates must be able to lift or move up to 75 lbs. and be able to climb steps and ladders and work from elevations. Requires endurance to lift, pull, transport and handle equipment and materials. A physical exam will be required upon receipt of job offer and contingent upon employment.
Other Requirements:
Current valid NC Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Essential Duties
* Mow the grounds (either by hand or riding lawnmower), edge walkways, flower beds and walls.
* Replacement of bushes, trees, grass and accent plants to maintain a landscaped campus.
* Maintain flower beds. Pull weeds. Plant flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
* Maintain a safe environment for faculty/staff/students/visitors by repairing structures, shoveling show from walkways and applying rock salt, cut tree limbs that are posing a danger, etc.
* Carry out grounds/landscaping work before jobs become major work items.
* Identify weeds, pests, and plant diseases and use appropriate methods of control.
* Operate a range of pedestrian and ride-on mowers and trimmers to cut grass and bushes to the required standards with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
* Report any major issues with lawns, grounds or gardens to the Coordinator of Grounds/Landscaping .
* Conduct routine ground/landscaping cleanup and damage inspections on a weekly basis.
* Apply fertilizers, turf conditioners and pesticides, per manufacturer recommendations.
* Ensure equipment and hand tools are regularly serviced and maintained for safe and efficient use.
* Organize and store equipment and materials securely.
Expected Knowledge, Attributes and Competencies:
* High level of physical fitness and agility. Heavy lifting may be required in this position, up to 75 lbs.
* Understand and apply quality control techniques.
* Knowledge and experience with turf maintenance (including use of chemicals).
* Ability to work unsupervised, maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
* Knowledge of and experience with safe operation of basic tools and machinery required for the position.
* Knowledge of BCCC requirements and regulations, and safety procedures.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to prioritize competing demands.
* Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task effectively.
* Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor

* Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor
FLSA Non-Exempt Estimated Hours per Week 40 Salary $31,200-$35,000 Based on the College's salary plan and commensurate with education and relevant work experience. (This range includes a relevant educational level up through an Associate's Degree.)
